چکیده

Abstract Background There is currently no drug therapy to prevent arthrofibrosis following knee surgery. We aimed determine if the anti-ischemic and anti-inflammatory adenosine, lidocaine Mg 2+ (ALM), reduces surgery-related in a rat model of implant Methods Male Sprague-Dawley rats ( n = 24) were randomly divided into ALM or saline groups. The right each animal was implanted with custom titanium (femur) polyethylene (tibia) implants, left served as non-operated control. An intra-articular bolus (0.1 ml) administered at end surgery, animals monitored for 4 weeks. Fibrotic changes assessed by macroscopic examination, histopathology, expression key inflammatory fibrotic markers joint capsule infrapatellar fat pad (IFP). Results Knee swelling evident both groups However, range motion 2-fold higher ALM-treated knees, differences pathology indicated improved healing, compared control group. Histologically, treatment also led significantly decreased synovitis IFP controls. RNA protein profiles pro-fibrotic mediators (α-SMA, TGF-β1, FGF1, PDGFA) lower knees from animals. In addition, plasma (IL-1β, IL-10) tissue (NFκB, IL-1β, IL-12), weeks after Conclusion show that administration single an experimental blunting inflammation modulating essential genes fibrosis. has therapeutic potential translation humans undergoing replacement

Intra-articular magnesium is effective for postoperative analgesia in arthroscopic knee surgery.

BACKGROUND Several medications are commonly injected intra-articularly for postoperative analgesia after arthroscopic knee surgery. Among the potentially efficient substances, magnesium could be of particular interest through its NMDA-receptor blocking properties. METHODS A total of 60 patients undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery were randomly and double-blindly assigned to two groups to rec...

The Effect of Intra-Articular Magnesium on the Articular Cartilage and Synovium in the Rat Knee Joint

Objective: Magnesium sulfate has been shown to provide analgesia when administered into the knee joints. The aim of this study was to evaluate the histopathological effects of intraarticular administration of magnesium sulfate in the rat knee joint. Design: A total of 50 rats were given 0.25ml of magnesium sulfate (10%) by injection into the right knee joint and 0.25ml of 0.9% saline solution b...

Intra-articular rheumatoid nodules and triggering of the knee joint.

Rheumatoid nodules are a common extra-articular manifestation in rheumatoid arthritis. Intra-articular localisation of these nodules is rare and may produce clinical symptoms. Seven patients with walking problems due to an intra-articular rheumatoid nodule, which became entrapped on the ridge of the tibial plateau of the knee joint resulting in a phenomenon referred to as trigger knee, are desc...

Intra-articular injection of ketorolac in the rat knee joint: effect on articular cartilage and synovium.

We have investigated the effects of intra-articular (i.a.) administration of ketorolac in the rat knee joint. Thirty Sprague-Dawley rats were given 0.25 ml of a standard preparation of ketorolac trometamol (10 mg ml-1) by injection into the right knee joint and 0.25 ml of 0.9% physiological saline solution by injection into the left knee as a control. Ten rats were killed at 24 h, 10 at 48 h an...

Intra-articular Lidocaine Injection for Shoulder Reductions

CONTEXT The shoulder is the most commonly dislocated joint, and shoulder dislocations are very common in sports. Many of these dislocations present to the office or training room for evaluation. Usual practice is an attempt at manual reduction without analgesia and then transfer to the emergency department if unsuccessful. The clinical efficacy of intra-articular lidocaine for reduction of ante...
